1.  What if I have trouble downloading large files?

If you are experiencing problems downloading a large file, try the following:

  • Use a different browser

  • If you are using the Standard Download, try using the HP Download Manager:

Select "Use HP Download Manager" from the drop down list in the Software downloads and licenses page.  Click the "Download" button.   The HP Download Manager launches automatically.  For more details about the HP Download manager, click on HP Download Manager FAQ.

  • Use a publicly available download manager

2.  What if the download fails?

There are several things you can attempt to help complete your download.  Firstly, close and restart your web browser.  After restarting your browser, go to the electronic delivery page and try to download the software again.  If this does not work, restart your computer and then attempt to download as before.

If you still cannot download, contact Customer Service.

3.  How do I verify that my download is complete?

Be sure you are using md5checksum to verify the integrity of the downloaded file.  If the checksum value does not match, please download the product again.  If the md5 checksum value still does not match, there may be a problem in which case please contact Customer Service.  The HP Download Manager automatically verifies the integrity of a downloaded file.

4.  What is the MD5 CheckSum?

This checksum, based on the standard MD5 algorithm, provides a 128-bit long secure fingerprint of the file to download.   It is possible to run an MD5 checksum verification on the downloaded file to verify that the result matches the fingerprint provided in the order.

Windows users:   There are many free md5 checksum algorithm file verification tools readily available on the internet.

NOTE:  If you use the HP Download Manager, it will automatically validate each chunk of a downloaded file using SHA1 checksum functionality.

5.  What if I cannot find the file I downloaded?

If you cannot find the download, perform a hard drive search for the file name you clicked to start your download on your download page, or for files with the same extension (search for *.iso for .iso files).
If the file does not show up, your browser may be misconfigured and your preferences may not be set up correctly.
If you downloaded the file using the Download Manager, check the Download Manager default location.

6.  What if I have a slow connection?

The way the Internet is built, information has to travel along a path of many networks to get from our servers to you.  This means downloads could take longer at certain times when the network is busy and your effective connection speed can be lower than the speed of your ISP connection.

Transmission speeds can be impacted by item such as: total network traffic, network traffic at your ISP, congested peering points among the bandwidth providers on the Internet and connection quality.

7.  What are the estimated download times?

Actual download times will depend the speed of the connection, conditions on the Internet, and the distance (geographically and number of network devices) between you and the download servers.

8.  I've found a broken link.  Who do I tell?

Contact Customer Service.

9.  What is the (re)download policy?

All software downloads are subject to the HP Software License Terms.  The License Terms for Copies and Adaptations state:  You may only make copies or adaptations of the Software for archival purposes or when copying or adaptation is an essential step in the authorized Use of the Software.  You must reproduce all copyright notices in the original Software on all copies or adaptations.  You may not copy the Software onto any public network.

10.  What are the minimum requirements for browsers?

Best results are obtained with the newest versions of Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox.  For minimum system requirements for the HP Download Manager, please refer to the HP Download Manager FAQ.

11.  How do I enable the "JavaScript"?

You will need to enable it in your browser preferences.  For example, if you are using Internet Explorer, select "Tools" from the toolbar, then select "Internet Options" from the drop down menu.  In the "Advanced" tab, you will be able to check your JavaScript settings.

12.  What type of preferences should I set in my browser?

Settings and preferences vary by browser.  The Internet Explorer browser has several security presets to make setting preferences easier.  In addition, specific error messages may indicate how to configure individual advanced settings to meet your needs.  In order to use the HP Download Manager, the browser should be enabled for popups.

13.  Do I need to enable cookies in my browser?

To function properly, some HP websites require cookies.  If an 'alert' window pops up asking if you wish to accept a cookie, click on 'yes'.  The method to enable cookies varies by browser.  As an example, in Internet Explorer, select "Tools" from the toolbar, then select "Internet Options" from the drop down menu.  In the "Privacy" tab, you will be able to edit your cookie settings.

14.  What if I have problems with my browser?

If Javascripts are enabled and your browser is set to accept cookies, you can try using another web browser than the one you are currently using.  If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer for example, try using Firefox or Chrome.

15.  How do I use the "iso" format files?

Like a .zip or .tar file, an ISO image encapsulates a collection of files.  The main difference is that an ISO image contains specific information about how those files are laid out on a CD-ROM.  After you have acquired an ISO image, you can access its files immediately, even before you burn it onto a CD-ROM.

You will need to do the following for each on the platforms below to use the image directly from your hard drive without burning a physical disc:

WINDOWS
You will need to install 3rd party software that is capable of mounting ISO files.  Popular software like Roxio's Disk Image Loader, Smart-Projects IsoBuster, EZB Systems' UtraISO, MagicISO, Nero's Image Drive and Microsoft's free application Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel for Windows XP, enable you to mount disc image files in a virtual drive as if they were discs in a physical drive.

Linux
mount -o loop pathToIso mountPoint

Solaris
lofiadm -a pathToIso
mount -F hsfs -o ro /dev/lofi/1 mountPoint

To burn the image directly to a CD, you will need to install 3rd party software that is capable of understanding and burning ISO image files.  Most popular CD burning software includes support for burning ISO images.  Follow the instructions that came with your CD burning application to create a physical disc from the ISO image.
